Another string of outstanding results

Another string of outstanding results from GIVI supported Teams and riders in the last few weeks, from MotoGP to Rallies.

In MotoGP Andrea Dovizioso powered to his fifth win of the year in the GP of Japan at Motegi, at the end of an exciting race and a terrific scrap right down to the final corner with Marc Marquez. The GIVI supported Ducati Team’s Italian rider has now reduced the gap in the overall standings to 11 points to the Spanish champion, with three rounds left in the 2017 MotoGP World Championship.

Dovizioso, who started from row 3, moved up to third in the early laps behind Petrucci, who led until lap 12, and Marquez. Once he had passed the Pramac Racing Team rider, Andrea began to chase down Marquez up at the front. Dovizioso then caught and passed him on lap 21, but three laps later Marquez was back in the lead. The Ducati man didn’t lose touch with his title rival however, attacking four corners before the finish to hold onto his first place until the checkered flag.

Jorge Lorenzo eventually finished in sixth place after starting from the second row.

Thanks to Motegi's result, Ducati moves into second place in the Constructors championship with 273 points.

Happy race for Dovizioso and his Ducati but, unfortunately,  unhappy weekend for Cal Crutchlow and the LCR Honda Team sponsored by GIVI, after failing to finish the Japanese Grand Prix. Starting from down in 15th spot on the grid, Crutchlow was hampered by the spray from bikes in front of him in the early stages before crashing on lap five. The LCR rider managed to remount and head back out on his spare bike, eventually crashing again. Truly a weekend to forget, but now the Briton and his Team are looking forward to the next race in Australia, stage of a stellar victory for Cal last year.

On the off-road front, it was Morocco's turn to step up to the World stage for the final round of the FIM 2017 Cross-Country Rallies Championship.

The OiLibya Rally Morocco 2017 saw a double podium finish for GIVI sponsored Monster Energy Honda Team. Kevin Benavides and Ricky Brabec, who had been in the running for overall victory, settled for second and third spots in the final round of the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship.

Monster Energy Honda Team has fought very hard throughout this Morocco Rally to grab the overall victory. Of their initial formation of four riders, Frenchman Michael Metge had been unable to take the start after a viral infection that saw him forced to return home on the first day of racing. Meanwhile, Paulo Gonçalves also returned to his home in Esposende ahead of schedule. The Portuguese, who had arrived in Fez as a potential contender just five points behind the leader of the overall championship, suffered a crash during the second stage injuring his right hand. The pain forced him to retire after finishing the third day of racing.

GIVI was also supporting another rider at the 2017 OiLibya Rally Morocco 2017: Yamaha Factory rider Alessandro Botturi. It was a sweet-sour experience for him, having some very nice stage finishes but also some bad luck. His his overall finish (55th) was marred by a bad day at the notorious river crossing on stage 2. Overall was a good test for the rider form Brescia, who now feels 100% ready for the next big one, the Dakar Rally in January 2018.
